Das hebräische Wort für Hund ist Kalev, was soviel wie «Kulo lev» bedeutet, d.h. ganzes Herz, wegen der Treue. Und gleichzeitig heißt es in der Tosefta in Behorot 1:2, dass der Esel das einzige unreine Tier ist, dessen Erstgeburt geheiligt wird; was bedeutet, dass man es vom Kohen auslösen muss.
