Einst war Rabbi Eliyahu Lapyan, der Tzal, Zeuge des Folgenden: Viele Leute waren dabei, Steine vom Berg zu schlagen, und diese wurden von einem Esel auf den Gipfel des Berges gebracht.
Aber der Esel hatte eine Augenbinde, also fragte er die Leute: «Warum ist das so?»Sie antworteten: «Sehen Sie, Ihr wisst es nicht, aber wir haben diese Tradition. So funktioniert es. Sonst würde der Esel es nicht tragen.»
Also dachte er nach und verstand, dass der Esel sich weigern würde, von unten nach oben zu gehen, wenn er den Berg sehen würde. Es ist zu viel.Die Last ist zu schwer.
Aber wenn der Esel nur ein paar Schritte vor sich sieht, nur ein paar Schritte, kann er gehen. Und ein paar Schritte plus ein paar Schritte summieren sich.
Und so ist es auch bei uns, wenn man die ganze Bibliothek der jüdischen Bücher sieht: «Ich kann das nicht.»
Aber wenn wir uns nur mit verbundenen Augen darauf konzentrieren, was wir heute tun müssen, zwei Seiten, fünf Seiten, was auch immer, es sind fünf Seiten, die ich tun kann.Und diese fünf Seiten summieren sich im Laufe der Jahre zu vielen, vielen Büchern.Und das ist die Lektion, die wir von dem Esel lernen.
Nach und nach kommen wir auf den Gipfel des Berges.

Once Rabbi Eliyahu Lapyan, the Tzal, was a witness of the following. People were cutting the stone from the mountain, and they were transported by a donkey to the top of the mountain.
But the donkey had a blindfold, so he asked people: «Why is that?» They said: «Look, you do not know, but we have this tradition. That’s how it works. Otherwise, the donkey would not carry it.»
So he thought to himself and he understood that if the donkey would see from the bottom of the mountain up to the top, it would refuse to go. It’s too much. The load is too heavy.
But if the donkey only sees a few steps in front of it, just a few steps, he can go. And a few steps plus a few, few steps adds up.
And same as us, when you see the whole library of the Jewish books: «I cannot do it.»
But if we concentrate only with blindfold, only what we must do today, two pages, five pages, whatever, there are five pages I can do. And these five pages over the years, they accumulate to many, many books. And that’s the lesson that we learn from the donkey.
Little by little, and we’re going to the top of the mountain.
