‚With your mouth and with your heart to do it…» (Devarim 30:14)
The Israelite possesses a potential holiness. By speaking in these principles and laws, and by thinking in them, he brings forth his potential excellence into actuality («to do it»). That is the most important function of these teachings and practices:
«Mitzvos (commandments) are given solely for the purpose of refining Israel» (Vayikra Rabba 13:3).
