Warum sagen wir an Shavuot «Akdamus»?
An Shavuot haben wir die Torah erhalten. Nun, «Akdamus» beschreibt, wie die Völker der Welt uns vorschlagen, dass wir uns ihnen anschließen sollen, damit wir gemeinsam mit ihnen die Größe teilen können, die sie uns versprechen. Und wir sagen ihnen: «Was auch immer ihr uns geben werdet, es ist nichts im Vergleich zu der Größe, die HaShem uns bereits gegeben hat.»
Es gibt kein größeres Glück als Matan Torah. Das größte Geschenk, das HaShem geben kann, אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לָנוּ תּוֹרַת אֱמֶת – das ist das Geschenk aller Geschenke.
Natürlich ist ein Geschenk wichtiger. Das ist das Geschenk des Lebens; das ist etwas anderes. Aber Leben und Torah sind dasselbe – Toras Chaim. Man kann keine Torah lernen, wenn man nicht lebt. Das Geschenk des Lebens und der Torah, das ist das Geschenk.
Die Nationen haben uns nichts zu bieten. Und obwohl sie uns die höchsten Belohnungen versprochen haben, wenn wir mit ihnen kommen, ist das nichts im Vergleich zu dem, was wir haben.
Und deshalb betonen die Akdamus: Was ist das große Glück von Shavuot? Das Glück besteht darin, dass Hakadosh Baruch Hu für uns getan hat, was Er für niemanden sonst getan hat. Das ist das größte Geschenk, das Er uns geben konnte – חַיֵּי עוֹלָם נָטַע בְּתוֹכֵנוּ. Denn die Torah bedeutet ewiges Leben. Die Torah bedeutet Olam Haba. חַיֵּי עוֹלָם נָטַע בְּתוֹכֵנוּ! Es ist so wichtig zu erkennen, was für ein Glück die Torah ist.
Why do we say Akdamus on Shavuos?
On Shavuos we received the Torah. Now, the Akdamus portrays how the nations of the world are proposing to us that we should go along with them and we’ll share together with them the greatness that they promise us. And we say to them, “No matter what you’ll give us, it’s nothing compared to the greatness that Hashem already gave us.”
There’s no greater happiness than Matan Torah. The greatest gift that Hashem can give, אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לָנוּ תּוֹרַת אֱמֶת – that’s the gift of all gifts.
Of course, one gift is more important. That’s the gift of life; that’s something else. But life and Torah is the same thing – Toras Chaim. You can’t learn Torah if you’re not alive. The gift of life and Torah, that’s the gift.
The nations have nothing to offer us. And even though they promised us the highest rewards for coming with them, it’s nothing at all compared to what we have.
And therefore, the Akdamus come to emphasize, what is the great happiness of Shavuos? The happiness is that Hakadosh Baruch Hu did for us what He never did for anybody else. That’s the biggest of all possible gifts that He could give – חַיֵּי עוֹלָם נָטַע בְּתוֹכֵנוּ. Because Torah means everlasting life. Torah means Olam Haba. חַיֵּי עוֹלָם נָטַע בְּתוֹכֵנוּ! It’s so important to realize what a happiness Torah is.
