Wie G-tt den Grashalm und die Zeder, die Kornähre und den Weinstock in seinem Weltenhaushalte braucht und jedem sein Gesetz erteilt, in dessen treuer Erfüllung jegliches froh seines Daseins lebt, unbekümmert darum, warum es Grashalm und nicht Zeder, warum es Ähre und nicht Weinstock, warum Weinstock und nicht Ähre, warum Zeder und nicht Grashalm geworden, G-tt den Weltenplan überlassend, froh und glücklich seines Teils seinen Beitrag treu und voll zum Ganzen zu liefern —: so braucht G-tt auch in seinem Menschenreiche Menschen und Juden, hat jedem seine Bestimmung und sein Gesetz [die Gesetze für Juden und die Gesetze für Nichtjuden] erteilt, und der große Gotteszweck wird nur dann erreicht, wenn jeder, froh und munter, rein und wahr, treu und voll die Bestimmung löst und das Gesetz erfüllt, das G-tt ihm erteilt, und in dieser Erfüllung den Beitrag zum Heile des Ganzen bringt, den G-tt von ihm erwartet.

Just as God needs the blade of grass and the cedar, the ear of corn and the vine in his world household and gives each one his law, in the faithful fulfillment of which each one lives happily in his existence, unconcerned about why it is blade of grass and not cedar, why it is ear of corn and not vine, why vine and not ear of corn, why cedar and not blade of grass, leaving the world plan to God, happy and happy to make his contribution faithfully and fully to the whole -: so also in his human kingdom God needs men and Jews, has given each his destiny and his law [the laws for Jews and the laws for gentiles], and the great purpose of God is only achieved when each, glad and cheerful, pure and true, faithfully and fully resolves the destiny and fulfills the law that God gives him, and in this fulfillment brings the contribution to the salvation of the whole that God expects of him.
