Warum wuchsen die Pflanzen nicht sofort? / Why Didn’t the Plants Grow Immediately?

🇬🇧 english below

In the story of creation, on the sixth day, Torah says in Bereshit 2.5:

And now all plants of the field were not yet on earth, and all herbs of the field had not yet sprouted, for Hashem, G-d, had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to work the soil.

And our sages in Talmud Chullin 60B said:

One second, but were not the vegetation created on the third day?

It looks like a contradiction. And now we’re talking about the sixth day, so where is the vegetation? And they explained, in fact the vegetation started to grow on the third day, but they stopped to grow and wait until Adam, the first man, was created, and he would pray for rain to come and for vegetation to go.

Why did Hashem not simply just create all of the vegetation ready on the third day? Because He desires the prayers of the righteous people. So He created a situation that would compel Adam to pray.

There is no contradiction in our holy Torah, you just have to read the commentary.

They’re beautiful.
